Thursday, February 25, 2010, was the first of a four-day recording session for the USU Chamber Singers. Under the direction of Dr. Cory Evans, the Chamber Singers are recording choral works of composer Daniel Gawthrop. Chapter member Jonathan Rose joins the choir as organist for this recording which is being made at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Hyde Park. The church is an excellent recording venue; the acoustic is very favorable to choral and organ music- providing a warmth and richness to the sound. Chapter member Lynn Thomas is the album's producer with artistic direction by Dr.Craig Jessop, Dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University. This recording session gives the college students a chance to experience a real, professional recording session. Bruce Leek left his home in sunny California to record the project. You've heard Bruce's work before. He records and masters recordings for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Tabernacle Organists. Bruce has also recorded Marcel Dupre and E. Power Biggs. This will be an album that all of the participants will be proud of their whole lives. The recording entitled Show Me Thy Ways: Choral Music of Daniel E. Gawthrop is now available on Amazon.com and at other online retailers or by contacting the Utah State University Music Department (www.music.usu.edu). |
